It's back to school time! After last year's struggles, many parents are thankfully sending their kids back to in-person learning and proudly sharing online. 2020 provided parents with many challenges, all of which were hard to adjust to and parents everywhere deserve some praise! Unfortunately though, the pandemic resulted in quite a few alarming increased trends regarding the safety of our children. According to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and the United Nations, 2020 saw a 97% increase in online enticements of children, a 106% increase in filed child-exploitation complaints, a 30% increase in children being trafficked, and a more than 10% increase in 'missing-child' reports in the United States. We can be proud, thankful, and breathe a sigh of relief while sending our kids back to school, but please do keep in mind the type of information you're publicly sharing online about your little ones. Ages, grades, and new school milestones are great! But their favorite colors, their school and specific teacher's classroom, their sports/extra-curricular activities, favorite things, and best friend's names are all specific items of interest that can be used for enticement by nefarious persons. If you’re in a relaxed environment and you are able to keep a low profile based on the threat level and a number of other relevant considerations, aim to keep yourself and your client off of the radar by acting more like a civilian. Try not to let it be known through your body language, clothing and other characteristics that you are there for security. The fewer people realize you’re there for security, the higher the probability that you won’t need to actually act like security in many cases. Many high-end professionals move through environments with their principals without even being detected by the public or disrupting the natural environment and operating like this mitigates a number of security concerns that come with showing up to big in your environment. Awesome post that is very relevant to our industry. If you are working for the “purple Lambo” or “look at me” type of client sometimes they demand this look and you better be able to deliver (although these guys are still a bit over the top). Nobody does the men in black thing anymore. The ultra rich and well informed client typically wants nothing to do with this. A lot of teams are opting for the low vis approach that allows the client to be fully protected without looking like they have a massive entourage of goons. This style of protection is becoming very popular and has some major advantages over the old school “bodyguard” methodology. Sometimes it’s best to trade in the suit for jeans and a t shirt. Even if the client wants the hard target look it can be achieved without dressing like a tool. A smile also goes a long way. When you drop a 40 to 9mm conversion barrel in you are pretty much installing a bull barrel on your pistol. The barrel’s outer diameter stays the same but the inner diameter is shrunk down to a 9mm. This creates more mass and weight. The gun becomes drastically more stable during rapid fire. The barrel’s extra thickness and weight also creates a more accurate shot.
